Director/Owner Bio

        María E. Castro founded MLC in 1991, and has been the school Director since then.  She is a Montessori trained Directress.
       Maria Castro graduated from an International school, the Carol Morgan School, in her hometown Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.  She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Psychology and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration.

        Maria has been involved in Education all her life.  She started as school counselor for preschools in the Dominican Republic, helping adapt the school curriculum to the needs and interest of the children at their care. She also worked at the National School for the Hearing Impaired, developing programs for the cognitive, social and emotional development of hearing impaired students.  Furthermore, Maria also worked with the Salesian Congregational School for Orphans, helping children adapt to society and to their new family environment.

        She was the Director of Centro de Psicologia Aplicada (Applied Psychology Center) where she worked assessing the cognitive development of preschool and elementary students who presented learning disabilities or behavioral problems.

        Maria was also the Director of CRADI Centro para la Recuperacion Academica y el Desarrollo Intelectual (Center for Academic and Intellectual Development).  This center offered tutoring for elementary students as well as extracurricular activities such as Theater, Ballet, Karate, English and Art.

        She was also a Professor for the Departments of Education and Psychology at the Universidad Nacional Pedro H. Urena (National University Pedro H. Urena), Instituto Tecnologico de Santo Domingo (Technological Institute of Santo Domingo), and Universidad Iberoamericana (Iberoamerican University). At the Iberoamerican University she was the creator/founder of the Counseling Department and Human Resources Division as well as part of the Admissions Committee.

        She has her Montessori certification from a MACTE approved institution, the Center for Guided Montessori Studies.  She is currently the president of the Iberoamerican Teacher Training Institute.
